Using the Internet in your Job Search
The Tuesday, November 14th meeting of
the Rocky Mountain Internet Users Group
(RMIUG) will feature a presentation on "Using
the Internet in your Job Search"
We will have three panelists that will
present their point of view how one can
use the the Internet to land that elusive
job! ;-) Each will share their personal
story, and we will then have a question/answer
session.
Tonda Franklin (franklin.t%emc2@ccsvm.stortek.com)
has been in Human Resources over 20 years
and has worked with electronics firms since
the late 70's. She has consulted in Silicon
Valley, worked for Motorola in Texas, and
has spent the last six years with StorageTek
in Colorado. She will shortly be moving
on to Spectrum Human Resources Systems Corporation
as the implementation project manager for
their new client-server product line. She
will be talking about changes in Recruiting
Techniques in High-Tech Firms. This will
include advertising, systems and tips.
Shayn Smith (Shayn.Smith@colorado.edu)
is the Assistant Director of Career Planning
and Systems Management at CU-Boulder, which
means half of his job is "high-touch" and
the other half is "high-tech" In addition,
he is National Certified Counselor and a
Certified Novell Administrator. He assists
CU students and alumni plan and implement
their careers. He will talk about the various
phases of the Internet job search, resources,
and share some success stories.
Dave Stover (djscompu@csn.net)
and URL http://www2.csn.net/~djs has research
and internet assignments with the Arapahoe
Library District. He was alerted to an announcement
on the Internet concerning his present assignment,
applied for it and was accepted. His background
includeds project management and consulting
assignments in 30 major US companies recommending
systems, methods, and procedure improvements.
He has experienced the "you have to much
gray hair, you are overqualified" feeling
and suggests the Internet is the way to
beat the odds in job searching.
The meeting is Tuesday, November 14th
from 7:00 - 9:00 pm (with optional 6:30
pm start for informal networking and refreshments).
The meeting will be held at the Department
of Commerce (NIST) Building at 325 Broadway
in Boulder, one traffic light South of Baseline.
This facility holds 510 people. Park in
the Dept. of Commerce lot, go in the main
door (faces East), and find the main auditorium
just to the right of the main entrance.
The meeting is free and open to the public.

to bring Internet-related product information,
brochures, and business cards which will
be displayed on an information table.
